ENGLISH AND FRENCH
Indangaburezi
College of Education

The English and French Department provides a wide selection of courses and programs designed to appeal to students with both specialist and non-specialist interests.

First-year work focuses on the development of writing skills and methods of literary analysis, while second-year courses offer introductions to various national literatures and genres.

Upper-level courses deal with many geographical, chronological, and generic approaches to literature. Some specialize in single figures (Shakespeare, Chaucer, Blake); others survey particular periods (Eighteenth-century literature, Victorian poetry and prose) or offer further study in language (History of English Language, Advanced Composition).

In addition, the Department annually offers special studies courses in which the content changes according to the various instructors' interests.

General and Minor programs allow students to combine the study of English with French. The Major program is designed to provide a thorough grounding in a variety of periods of English and French literature.
The Honours program allows for more intense study of English and French, and culminates in a specialized reading project and graduating essay. The Professional Writing Minor allows students to become proficient in professional and technical writing, and is taken in conjunction with a Major in any area, including English and Frensh.
The Combined Major in French and English leads to a Diploma for students proficient in both languages.
